Oh how I miss it.

I'm actually playing Pokemon Sapphire now and it's actually quite fun. I enjoy creating the team that I think suits most, roaming around my favourite areas, training up some nifty Pokemon, and the graphics aren't bad either.

I've also been playing Zelda: Oracle of Ages, and that's pretty neat to.

I miss the days I used to spend playing on my Gameboy, I feel like losing myself into that world again. The cool thing about it being a separate, and small, console means I can take it around the house, I can play it while I'm coding, or whatever.

I still miss the time I used to play on it though.

Bwah. :(

Well. First things first, big kudos to mook and spot for working on the alpha of the new NR chat, major luffles to them for their wonderous task, I hope to see some wonderful extras added to it as it becomes more stable and released fully. Thanks guys!

Music music music. Recently been getting into a little bit of trance and dance, it's cool stuff, and there is some really good stuff out there. 5 most recent tracks:

1. Infinity 2008 (Klass Remix) - Guru Josh Project
2. It Feels So Good - Sonique
3. The Ballad of Peter Pumkinhead - Crash Test Dummies
4. Funny Break (One Is Enough) (Plump DJ's and normal mix) - Orbital
5. Smartbomb (Plump Dj's remix) - BT

Not all trance and dance, but certainly a nice little collection.

Visited Nottingham university on Thursday, was okay, nothing overwhelming, then again, little has been (bar Infinity 2008 as mentioned above)...anywho. That's it for now.

Oh. I'm also addicted to Zombie Panic! and Earth 2150. Love those games.

So, that's the money updates. I passed my theory test, sent off my UCAS application and so on...I'm too lazy.

Besides that I've been messing with Linux, problems with Ubuntu, switched to Fedora. 'Tis very nice. I've been programming in Python which is a lovely language, database work ftw, sockets, networks and all that shiz next.

So gaming has been lax, I need to fix up Wine and some games on Fedora, I managed to get something sorted on ubuntu, but that's history.

I really need to go to the forums more don't I. Pah.

Still waiting to get Stalker, I'll have to upgrade my PC first, double the RAM and a new graphics card I suppose...mhmm, any suggestions?

It's late (for me) again, short update (again).

Once again I need to spend more time on here, but I keep on forgetting.

So here it goes:
- New Aphex Twin EP (Come to Daddy, not new, but new for me)
- Sorting out my university application (Nuclear Engineering at Lancaster)
- Small new game called Phun which is...phun? 2D physics game, the water can be rather intensive on the computer as it's all physics, not graphics, but it's fun as hell
- School has started again, one more year to go before I bail for uni
- Just watched the entire Heroes seasons 1 and 2, absolutely fantastic stuff
- My wallet (and I) hate driving lessons
- This video: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=og1HAkjOuL0 is awesome. AWSM AWSM.

Linux, Windows and Stalker

Blog Code
  • Mood: Tired
  • Playing: Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl
  • Listening: Pendulum - In Silico

Mhm, for a while now I've had my 'new' PC, well it's newer then this one, it's not brilliant spec. wise but it's good for me, so I decided to try and install linux on it and test it out on a modern, up to date machine. Just my luck however it messes up my Windows MBR. Ugh. Fixbmbr, Fixboot, chkdsk, ms-sys, everything, borked, wouldn't fix it. So, reinstall Windows. Luckily I backed up my files onto my second HDD (I have two 250Gb HDD), then started again, installed Linux on the first HDD, keeping Windows on the second HDD. Same thing. Again! Eck. Move files across, reinstall and now it's at that, taken me 3 days to get to this point. Has been fun and interesting but I'm no further then I was before. I want linux on my nice new machine :(

I'll try it again and report back sometime ;)

Now I've finally got Windows up right again I've begun playing Stalker, again, and I still suck at it and feel like a scared little girl. I phail. lulz.

Anyway, on a side note. More music! I got my CD (Pendulum - Hold Your Colour), then I got In Silico, and two new Sigur Ros CDs, their newest and an old one and I also got M3 by The Flashbulb (shame it wasn't the actual physical CD, but it's all good, good tunes).

To do:
- Get further in Stalker
- Install Linux on my new machine
- Learn more VB.net and some Visual C#
- Listen to more music

Oh. I don't only use IE7 guys...I'm quite happy with FF3 as well >.< and CS:S isn't the only game I play...really.

Yeh, considering I ordered the CD on Monday night and I expected it today you should have thought I'd be going on about the CD. Well ugh. I sat at home all day doing nothing. I had the last two days off school seeing as I had no lessons. So all day. On my PC. Nothing to do. Nothing. Like. Balls. And my parcel came. At least they wanted my signature for it. But I didn't hear the door bell did I? So I spent original cost + 2 x (original cost) in P&P to get express delivery and I didn't even get it because I couldn't even hear the door bell. So now it's at the post office on the other side of another town and its raining plus I hate biking through that area anyway. Man. My day just isn't getting any better.

Oh I forgot to mention. I probably won't get it until Friday. Like fug.

Amazon...

  • Mood: Stunned

So I've just purchased this CD, Hold Your Colour by Pendulum. I had heard clips on iTunes and it sounded good and I wanted it quick, so I checked on Amazon for prices and lo and behold it cost £5 instead of iTunes £8. So I hastily bought it, with express delivery (which went up to about £14 in the end, mad eh?).

Only after doing this did I realise the two versions were different and looking into it I had just bought the new one on disc which supposedly had shoddy recording with noticeable gaps between tracks that were supposed to fit together and they had replaced two of the last songs. So I went back to Amazon to cancel my order and think about it. But wow, boy are they fast. Within 5 minutes of making the order I couldn't cancel and it was ready for dispatch. Like WTF. So er. I bought the two extra songs off iTunes and I'm now waiting for the CD. If it's as bad as one or two have made out I'll just buy it all off iTunes. Yay for money. Damn the summer holidays. Need a job, may ring a computer place tomorrow. Should be interesting.

Damn. Spam. Ham. Clam. Sham.

What you should learn from this:

- Acting on impulse/on a whim isn't as brilliant as it seems at the time
- Money does grow on trees but requires more money to convert it into actual money first
- Pendulum are awesome
- Express delivery is well...express
- Express delivery will burn a hole in your pocket. A big one. Very big. Damn.

It's a free weekend on Steam for DoD: Source so if you've not played it yet get right on it. And if that wasn't good enough the game is half price until Thursday! That's $4.99 Just under 5 dollars! (that's like £3 for me, which to be honest was a steal). It's fun, simple and different. Certainly not the best of the Source games but it's good all the same :)

Hate. Daytime. Internet

Blog Code

Oh my, this is nucking futs. Seriously daytime internet is so damn slow it's a pain. I get the lowest ping of about what, 200, on TF2. It's so annoying. The lag just kills me. Sigh. Wonder how long it will be until optic fiber goes to homes.

On the note of optic fibers what are the economical advantages getting fiber to homes? Also what restricts me from downloading a single file at my full 2mb/s (yay. woo.) if it's the server uploading the file for me to download limiting how would fiber help in that respect? I guess the lines could take more overall traffic...mhmm. Talk to me people. I want to know more about the practical, social and economical issues with optic fibers, but nothing too long. I get bored easily. lol.

Mhmm, so I've not updated my blog in a long time.

Plus my activity here on Napalm Riot has been a minimum, shame huh?

So recently I have had AS exams, Maths, Mechanics, 2 Chemistry, 2 Physics and a Computing. I'm hoping I've done okay and it sure is a relief for them to be over and done with now.

Gaming wise I have been lacking, I bought another small game off Steam called Everyday Shooter, the site of this little beauty can be found here: http://www.everydayshooter.com/ it's a wonderful little game and takes sometime to open up the other levels but it's a fun little game to play inbetween the bigger games, especially if you're waiting for something to happen on Eve or you've got a paticularly long losing streak on Call of Duty 4 hehe. I have recently though got back into Battlefield 2142 (If you play add one, two or all of the following: NewRedWorld, RoundsForever and BluePaper). I've also bought Sim City 4 Deluxe so I'm waiting for that to arrive and I'm looking forward to playing a bit of that to lose myself into over the summer, I am determined to get a lovely city created that can sustain itself.

I mentioned clothing above and that's because this lovely site here: http://insanelygreattees.com has some wonderful t-shirts, I've just bought the insomnia formula shirt and the fluther jellyfish shrit and I'm waiting for them to be shipped.

Talking about Fluther it's a wonderful site where you can ask questions and get them answered by the community, or you could be part of that community answering the questions. It's really friendly, light and can be quite indepth at times. http://fluther.com.

With coding I am continuing to learn VB.net as I'm building a booking system for my computing A-level project and it's looking good so far, I'm just getting used to ADO.Net and database integration as that plays an important part in this system. I'm still sticking with PHP as well for web development and I'm hoping I can build a simple system sometime for one of my sites, just to enhance my coding skills. I'm also very interested in Python and would love to learn how to code for both web and application development, the former using Django (http://www.djangoproject.com/) which Fluther has been built with, and well built in that.

I'm still jobless as a 17 year old, I would like to get a partime job but where I live the only places are either at a local fast food place (which I'm sure I couldn't work at due to my long hair...) or at a local supermarket, which when there are lots of tourists I would hate. So for now I'm buying stuff using the money I get from school but that will stop in about 5/6 weeks, which is a shame as I'll need to pay for driving lessons sometime.

I think that's it, my inactivity on Napalm Riot has been for a number of reasons, it's as slow as hell on my Linux PC when I go onto the site, it's painful, besides that I've not really found time and uh. I can't find anyway to sit down and feel at home, yet, heh, maybe my time will come one day. Maybe.

Ugh, long and possibly boring blog post, ah well.

Fantastic, absolutely fantastic I swear. Cross between my music (or...your music) and a fun little game, it's a brilliant time waster/stress reliever. It's fun. If you've got a steam account try the demo, infact I'm sure there's a demo without the need for a steam account :)

Considering NR has been in Alpha and only came out of it recently and gone into Beta/WSW edition it's grown quite nicely so far. The forum is getting busy, which I find it hard to keep up with hehe. I keep track of who's who and what's what. Never know which threads are worth posting in and such. I love the community feel of it all :D

I'm still hoping they get a chat room up sometime, even if it's an IRC room (for the meanwhile of course :P) because I <3 chatting with others in real time.

Just saying I think the forums are getting hugely busy and I'm finding it hard to keep up, so is it just me or...?

So.

I bought it ($58/£30).

It looks good.

At least...the adverts do. The download is so slow hehe, stupid bandwidth throttling. After 11pm it jumps to 250kb/s odd, at the moment it is 26.5kb/s. Kind of like dial up. Looking forward to playing TF2 (which is the one I'm currently downloading) I find Portal creepy and I suck at it hehe and HL2:Ep2 is going to be awesome, I swear it will be. I absolutely loved the other two in this series. It's great great stuff.

In other news:
- Bought a new camera (400D, £389), waiting for that, I'll blog about it when it comes
- Bought some new headphones, should make my music listening habits over 9000 times better
- Finally completed my collection of The Flashbulb CDs (at least the ones I wanted and knew I could get) his most recent one, STAVL (Soundtrack To A Vacant Life) is absolutely beautiful
- Half-term next week, still lots of work to do though I guess
- Tried playing BF2142 again and realised: a) Wow either my mouse or my connection sucks, both probably do actually...new mouse...need to get one, any ideas for a wired optical one? b) Switching between games is so hard, believe me the differences between speed, agility, movement etc. is so confusing between BF2142, CoD4 and HL2:DM
- I absolutely love HL2:DM, I join this German server everyday, funny guys, even if I can't understand them half of the time...well most of the time.

That's it I guess,

tl;dr - money is draining out of my account faster then water does from the towns around the UK

Call of Duty 4
Half Life 2
Half Life 2: Deathmatch
Garry's Mod
Counter Strike Source

And all in a matter of weeks, so it's been fun packed gaming for me...until I had my exams, if only they were fun games...or at least games I could reset and restart, knowing what's to come heh.

I've been relativly inactive on here, mainly due to gaming and revision for my exams. I need to be more active I know I know hah.

You can find me on:

Xfire: einsteinshamster
Steam: BluePaper

And such...what about anyone else, anything new and tasty I should get? I'm downloading Portal now from Steam (semi-demo I think) and I'm waiting to get HL2: Lost coasts. Should I get TF2? should I just buy the orange box lol. I'll see how the semi-demo goes.

Oh.

One other thing:

I'm not so much of a dedicated gamer, I seem to game when I feel like it, which is reasonably often. I've been a huge fan of RTS games for about two years now but recently I've switched a bit to FPS games after playing Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl which got me into that genre, now I'm playing BF2142 and games of that variety which I find great fun. I seem to have a bit more of a chance on those games against humans then on RTS games. I may have been playing games on and half over the past few years but it's not to say that I'm any good. I'm always improving (at least I like to think I am). So I'm looking forward to seeing what other people are like with gaming in a community such as this.
